Pioneer packs
The pioneer packages are for those who want challenges and are either experienced in canoes or just want new and exciting experiences.
In addition to challenges, there is ample opportunity to enjoy the unique nature that the Gudenåen river and its surroundings offer. You'll fill your lungs with fresh air and can be sure to have achieved a pleasant feeling of tiredness in your body when the day's goal is reached.
The Pioneer Packages extend over 2 - 3 - 4 or 5 days, and accommodation takes place in 4-person igloo tents at recommended campsites. The tent is handed out together with the canoe on the starting day, and the tent is then your property and taken home when the trip is over.
Our recommendations for accommodation are exclusively primitive campsites along the river, and you are responsible for pitching the tent yourself every night. You must take care of the settlement at the primitive campsites, where it typically costs between 40 DKK and 50 DKK to stay overnight - however, some simple places are free to stay at. You can see here the prices for the individual campsites.

Then you sail past the area by Silkeborg Papirfabrik, where Jysk Musik & Teaterhus, cinema, hotel, restaurants etc. are located. When you get to Silkeborg Langsø, you must turn right, and very shortly after you are on a narrower Gudenåen river. Take your time and let the current help you on your way. A little before Resenbro there is a rest area with a toilet on your left side.
After about 2.5 hours of sailing, you will come to Sminge Sø, which is one of the best bird localities along the Gudenåen river. After you have sailed through Sminge Sø, where you keep to the left side, the river will gather again, and not long after you will arrive at Sminge P-plads. Here lies the Bird Tower, from which there is an impressive view over Sminge Sø.
If you get hungry, stop by Svostrup Kro, one of the old Pramdrager Kroer - it is located about 800 meters ahead on the left, after Sminge Sø.
Shortly after Svostrup Kro you will pass Tvilum bridge, where a short distance after the bridge, there is a landing bridge, where you can moor and follow the path 200 meters up to Tvilum Church. Here there is a rest area and toilets up by the church.
A short distance after Tvilum Church there will be a white sign on your right hand, which tells you that Teglgårdsparkens Nærkøb & Grill is located here - another characteristic is also that a bonfire can be seen on the meadow before Sankt Hans and after that it will look like a flat area without trees and anything else. You can stock up on supplies here.
An hour after Teglgårdsparken you arrive at Kongensbro Teltplads, which is your place to stay for the night. The square is located just before the large bridge on your right side.
Easy and simple - order and have dinner and/or breakfast delivered from Teglgårdsparkens Nærkøbens & Grill by phone: +45 27 84 78 81 - please order at least the day before so they know it will be delivered.
Kongensbro Kro is just across the street and offers a breakfast buffet, lunch or dinner.

A short distance after Kongensbro you will come to sail on Tange Sø. You sail towards Ans, where you can stock up on supplies. Tange Sø is Denmark's largest artificial lake. At the end of Tange Sø lies Tangeværket and the Energy Museum, where there will be a portage with the canoe. You must use the canoe trolleys intended for this purpose, which you will typically find on the other side, as this is where the other sailors have left the trolleys.

Day 1:
From this lovely place you start your trip on the Gudenåen river. You are completely away from civilization, and the first place you come to is Gudenå Camping, which is located in Brestenbro - here you have to pay a small fee to moor. They have a lovely cafeteria here.
After Brestenbro the water is deeper and the river a little wider. At Bredvadmølle there is a rest area with a toilet, which you find by turning right just before Bredvad Bro. Shortly after you have sailed under Bredvad Bro, you will come to Bredvad Sø, which you sail through and then keep to the right, where you will find Vestbirk Camping. At Vestbirk Camping you can stock up on supplies and satisfy your hunger in their grill bar.
The stretch towards Voervadsbro is one of the river's most beautiful. After Vestbirk Camping you must keep to the right, after which you sail through a small canal (Remember to keep to the right). You go through the upper part of Naldal Sø and into Vestbirk Sø, where you then have to go through a canal again. You reach Vestbirk Vandkraftværk, which is definitely worth a visit. At Vestbirk Vandkraftværk, the canoe must be "carried" over with the canoe trolleys intended for this.
When you arrive at Voervadsbro Teltplads, you set up camp for the night - you must not cheat yourself out of visiting the restaurant Det Lille Røgeri. It is located 5 min. walk from the campsite. In the restaurant, which is also a shop, you can eat your fill of delicacies. In the shop, in addition to a few groceries, you can buy Italian specialities, smoked trout and homemade fish cakes. Order picnic baskets in advance, if necessary. Delivery of groceries or breakfast to the square by contacting Sdr. Vissing Torvehal no later than 4 pm the day before.
Day 2:
You have approx. 1.5 hours sailing to Klostermølle. This stretch is one of the river's most beautiful experiences. You sail through a jungle-like vegetation, narrow passages and wide rapids. It is important to stay in the stream channel, where the river is deepest, otherwise you may risk getting stuck with the canoe. Just before you arrive at Klostermølle, you sail on the Klosterkanalen.
When you arrive at Klostermølle Teltplads, you must pull the canoes up on land, as there is a portage of canoe. Remember to use the canoe trolleys intended for this.
Klostermølle is under all circumstances worth a visit. Here is an old damming, which was first established by the monks back in the 13th century at Vor Kloster. There is also the opportunity to see an old drying barn for cardboard production, an exhibition about the history and nature, as well as a bird tower with a very beautiful view over Mossø. Here you will also find the path to Sukkertoppen, which is 108 meters high. From the top there is a magnificent view.
The riverbed winds beautifully through the landscape and the course is set for Gammel Rye and Emborg Bro, where there are both rest areas with toilet and table/bench sets.
To get to Ry, you have to go over to Birksø. To get over to Birksø, you have to keep to the left in Åløbet. Here a canal has been established for a short portage - remember to use the canoe trolleys intended for this, which will typically be on the other side. If you then sail to the right, you will arrive at Ry marina, the rowing club and Skimminghøj Teltplads, where the canoe must be handed in no later than 4 pm.

| Start | End | Km | Time | |
| Day 1 | Ry / Skimminghøj Teltplads | De Små Fisk Teltplads | 15 | 4.5 hours |
| Day 2 | De Små Fisk Teltplads | Sminge campsite | 15 | 4 hours |
| Day 3 | Sminge Campsite | Ans Teltplads* | 18 | 5 hours |

Price per canoe, including tent from: DKK 1,650.
Recommended accommodations: De Små Fisk Teltplads and Sminge Teltplads*
*Any accommodation fees are not included in the price.
Day 1:
Shortly after Ry, you'll sail past Alling Vest Teltplads, which is an incredibly beautiful and protected area.
The tour now heads out through Rosvig and out into Julsø. Here you can sail to Himmelbjerget, and moor at Hotel Julsø, where Hjejlen and the route boats also moor. Remember either to pull the canoe up to the left of the route boats by bridge 51 or all the way to the right of Hjejlen and the route boats' landing places, by the small sandy beach.
Møgelø is on the right after Himmelbjerget. Møgelø is an island in Julsø opposite Himmelbjerget. The name Møgelø means "Large Island", as with 28 barrels of land it is the largest in the lake.
Before Svejbæksnævringen you will find the restaurants: Ålekroen, Traktørstedet Ludvigslyst and Skyttehusets Café - remember to check their opening hours if lunch is to be enjoyed here.
Then you sail on into Borresø, and a visit to Slåensø (located to the left in Borresø) is definitely worth a visit. You have to pull the canoe/kayak up on land at the bottom of bridge 30, and from there there is a short walk before you are inside Slåensø, which is one of Denmark's cleanest freshwater lakes.
The Paradise Islands are also on the left, and if there is time for it, it is obvious to sail to Paradise. Borresø is so to speak divided into two sections - a relatively deep eastern part, which is traversed by the Gudenåen river and a somewhat more shallow western part with the four small islands, which together are called the Paradise Islands.
Now it goes through Sejssnævringen and into Brassø, where De små Fisk Teltplads is on the right side, and you set up camp for the night. A short walk into Sejs brings you to shopping and dining. It is a lovely scenic park-like area, with space for ball games. There is also a bathing area which is "fenced in."
Day 2:
It is a must to sail in through Klüvers canal, which is located after Bridge no. 7. It is not very wide or deep, and the trees grow out over it, so branches and leaves almost form a “roof”. But there is just room for you to sail through with your canoe, and from here you sail into the most beautiful lake, which lies in the middle of the forest. The lake is called Avnsø and is normally called "Brillerne", a name the lake has received because of its shape, because it actually resembles a pair of old-fashioned glasses.
Now the trip continues towards Silkeborg, where you will sail on Remstrup Å, which is 2.5 km. long. Remstrup Å runs from Brassø to Silkeborg Harbour, where Silkeborg Kanocenter also has its base, after which the river runs further out into Silkeborg Langsø.
When you get to Silkeborg Harbour/Silkeborg Kanocenter, you have to go through Kammerslusen to get north. It is obvious to take a break and buy provisions, and possibly take a short walk up to Silkeborg's cozy city center with shopping opportunities, shopping opportunities and eateries.
You will then sail past the Silkeborg Paper Factory area, where Jysk Musik & Teaterhus, cinema, hotel,
restaurants etc. are located.
After you have sailed through Sminge Sø, where you keep to the left side, the river will gather again, and not long after you will arrive at Sminge P-plads on your left side. Here lies the Bird Tower, from which there is an impressive view over Sminge Sø.
Diagonally opposite Sminge Rasterplads, on the other side of the water, to the right when sailing, lies Sminge Teltplads, which is a protected site, and therefore is a very cozy intimate nature site. This is where you set up camp for the night.
Svostrup Kro, one of the old Pramdrager Kroer, is approx. 800 meters further ahead to the left, on the opposite side of the campsite. Some choose to book a table at the most cozy inn, as it is possible to sail over to the opposite side, and walk the stretch on Trækstien / Pramdragerstien to the inn and back to the rest area, after which you sail back to the campsite again.
Day 3:
You sail towards Ans.
You can stock up on supplies here or enjoy a lunch here.
An hour after Teglgårdsparken you arrive at Kongensbro Teltplads, and Kongensbro Kro is on the opposite side, on your left hand - the inn is also one of the old Pramdrager Kroer. which is your place to stay for the night. The square is located just before the large bridge on your right side.
A short distance after Kongensbro you will sail on Tange Lake.
As you approach Ans, be aware of sailing under the bridge. To find Ans Teltplads, where you must hand in the canoe no later than 4 pm, keep slightly to the left and then left around the small island, which lies in the middle of Tange Sø. Then on your left hand, you will arrive at Ans Teltplads.

Before Svejbæksnævringen you will find the restaurants: Ålekroen, Traktørstedet Ludvigslyst and Skyttehusets Café - check their opening hours if you want to enjoy lunch.
After Svejbæksnævringen, you'll find Slåensø on your left, and with its crystal clear spring water one of Denmark's cleanest freshwater lakes.
The Paradise Islands are also to the left, and if time permits, you can sail to Paradise and experience this beautiful area.
Now it goes through Sejssnævringen and into Brassø. A little further on, where Brassø narrows a little, on the left side (just opposite Silkeborg Sejlklub), it is a must to sail through Klüvers kanal, which is located after Bridge No. 7. It is not very wide or deep, and the trees grow out over it, so branches and leaves almost form a “roof”. But there is just room for you to sail through with your canoe, and from here you sail into the most beautiful lake, which lies in the middle of the forest.
Now the trip continues towards Silkeborg, where you will sail on Remstrup Å, which is 2.5 km. long. Remstrup Å runs from Brassø to Silkeborg Harbour/Silkeborg Kanocenter, where the canoe must be returned to us

Remember either to pull the canoe up to the left of the route boats at bridge 51 or all the way to the right of Hjejlen and the route boats' landing places, by the small sandy beach.
Møgelø is to the right after Himmelbjerget. Møgelø is an island in Julsø opposite Himmelbjerget. The name Møgelø means "Large Island", as with 28 barrels of land it is the largest in the lake.
Before Svejbæksnævringen you will find the restaurants: Ålekroen, Traktørstedet Ludvigslyst and Skyttehusets Café - remember to check their opening hours if lunch is to be enjoyed here, where you can drop off or pick up your canoe/kayak. A little further on, still on the right, is Ålekroen.
Then you sail on into Borresø, and a visit to Slåensø (located to the left in Borresø) is definitely worth a visit. You have to pull the canoe/kayak up onto land inside at the bottom of bridge 30, and from there there is a short walk before you are inside Slåensø, which is one of Denmark's cleanest freshwater lakes.
The Paradise Islands are also to the left, and if there is time, it is obvious to sail to Paradise. Borresø is so to speak divided into two sections – a relatively deep eastern part, which is traversed by the Gudenåen river and a somewhat more shallow western part with the four small islands, which together are called the Paradise Islands.
Now it goes through Sejssnævringen and into Brassø, where De Små Fisk Teltplads is on the right side, and you set up camp for the night. A short walk into Sejs brings you to shopping and dining options. It is a lovely scenic park-like area, with space for ball games. There is also a bathing area which is "fenced in."
Day 2:
It is a must to sail through Klüvers kanal, which is located after Bridge No. 7. It is not very wide or deep, and the trees grow out over it, so branches and leaves almost form a “roof”. But there is just room for you to sail through with your canoe, and from here you sail into the most beautiful lake, which lies in the middle of the forest. The lake is called Avnsø and is normally called "Brillerne" (The Glasses), a name the lake has got because of its shape, because it actually resembles a pair of old-fashioned nose glasses.
Now the trip continues towards Silkeborg, where you will sail on Remstrup Å, which is 2.5 km. long. Remstrup Å runs from Brassø to Silkeborg Harbour, where Silkeborg Kanocenter also has its base, after which the stream runs further out into Silkeborg Langsø.
When you get to Silkeborg Harbour/Silkeborg Kanocenter, you must go through Kammerslusen to get north. It is obvious to take a break and get some supplies, and possibly take a short walk up to Silkeborg's cozy city center with shopping opportunities, shopping facilities and dining options.
Then you sail past the area by Silkeborg Papirfabrik, where Jysk Musik & Teaterhus, cinema, hotel, restaurants etc. are located. When you get to Silkeborg Langsø, you must go to the right, and very shortly after you will be on a narrower Gudenå. Take your time and let the current help you on your way. A little before Resenbro there is a rest area with a toilet on your left side.
After about 2.5 hours of sailing, you will come to Sminge Sø, which is one of the best bird localities along the Gudenåen river. After you have sailed through Sminge Sø, keeping to the left side, the river will gather again, and not long after you will arrive at Sminge P-plads on your left side. Here lies the Bird Tower, from which there is an impressive view over Sminge Sø.
Diagonally opposite Sminge Rasterplads, on the other side of the water, to the right when sailing, lies Sminge Teltplads, which is a protected site, and therefore is a very cozy intimate natural site. This is where you set up camp for the night.
Svostrup Kro, one of the old Pramdrager Kroer, is located approx.
Shortly after Svostrup Kro you will pass Tvilum bridge, where a landing bridge will appear a little after the bridge, where you can moor and follow the path 200 meters up to Tvilum Church. Here there is a rest area and toilets up by the church.
A short distance after Tvilum Church, you will see a white sign on your right indicating that Teglgårdsparkens Nærkøb & Grill is located here – another sign is that a bonfire site can be seen in the meadow before Midsummer, and after that it will look like a flat area without trees or anything else. You can stock up on supplies here or enjoy lunch.
About an hour after Teglgårdsparken, you will arrive at Kongensbro Teltplads, and Kongensbro Kro is on the opposite side, on your left – the inn is also one of the old Pramdrager Kroer, which is your accommodation for the night. The site is located just before the large bridge on your right side.
A short distance after Kongensbro you will sail on Tange Lake. Tange Sø is Denmark's largest artificial lake. As you approach Ans, be aware of sailing under the bridge. After this, if you keep to the right, you can take a break at Sahl Rasteplads, where there is a toilet. Otherwise, keep slightly to the left and then left around the small island in the middle of Tange Sø. After this, on your left, you will arrive at Ans Teltplads. You set up camp for the night. In Ans there are shopping and dining options.
Day 4:
On the left side, after approx. ½ hour of sailing, is Tange Søbad, where there is a rest area with a toilet. It is obvious to take a dip here.
At the end of Tange Sø is Tangeværket, where there will be a portage with the canoe. You must pull the canoe ashore and use the canoe trolleys intended for this purpose, which you will typically find on the other side, as this is where other sailors have left the trolleys. The Energimuseet is also located at Tangeværket. It is free for children up to and including 17 years to visit the museum.
After Tangeværket, you have about an hour's sail to Bjerringbro, where there are shopping opportunities and places to eat - make sure to stock up on fresh supplies of provisions.
Approx. 1 hour after Tangeværket you will arrive at Bjerringbro Teltplads, where there are shopping and dining options. After stocking up on new and fresh supplies, you have approx. 30 minutes to Kjællinghøl Teltplads, which comes just before Kjællinghølbroen on your left side – pay attention to this guidance. Here on this very primitive site you set up camp for the night.
Day 5:
Before Bamsebo Camping there is Busbjerg Rasteplads, with toilet and table/bench sets. When you arrive in Ulstrup, Dannebrogpladsen will be on your right, just after the bridge. It is a large green grass area and there is also a fantastic natural playground here. In Ulstrup there are shopping and dining options.
When you arrive at Langå Camping, which is located just before Langå Bådlaug, pull the canoe ashore and leave it in the same way you found it.

*Any accommodation fees are not included in the price.
Day 1:
From Tørring you have 2 hours of sailing to "Verdens Ende", which is a landing place without a toilet, with table/bench sets and a bird tower. Then you have 1 hour of sailing with many turns to Åle. The first part of the trip between Tørring and Åle is the most winding part of the Gudenåen river. You sail through a large flat wetland area with reed forests and many tributaries. At Åle Teltplads there is a toilet and table/bench set, and it is an obvious place to take a break.
After a good hour, you'll reach Åstedbro Teltplads where you'll find a toilet, tables/benches and the Åstedbro Grill - here you'll set up camp for the night.
Day 2:
You are completely away from civilization, and the first place you come to is Gudenå Camping, which is located in Brestenbro – here you have to pay a small fee to moor.
After Vestbirk Camping, keep to the right, after which you sail through a small canal (Remember to keep to the right).
When you arrive at Voervadsbro Teltplads, set up camp for the night - don't cheat yourself out of visiting the restaurant Det Lille Røgeri. It is located 5 min. walk from the campsite. In the restaurant, which is also a shop, you can eat your fill of delicacies. In the shop, in addition to a few groceries, you can buy Italian specialities, smoked trout and homemade fish cakes. Order picnic baskets in advance. Delivery of groceries or breakfast to the site by contacting Sdr. Vissing Torvehal no later than 4 pm the day before.
Day 3:
You have approx. 1.5 hours of sailing to Klostermølle. This stretch is one of the river's most beautiful experiences. You sail through a jungle-like vegetation, narrow passages and wide rapids. It is important to stay in the stream, where the river is deepest, otherwise you risk getting stuck with the canoe. Just before you arrive at Klostermølle, you sail on the Klosterkanalen.
When you arrive at Klostermølle Teltplads, you must pull the canoes ashore, as there is a portage of the canoe. Remember to use the canoe trolleys intended for this.
Klostermølle is definitely worth a visit. Here is an old damming, which was first established by the monks back in the 13th century at Vor Kloster. There is also the possibility to see an old drying barn for cardboard production, an exhibition about the history and nature, as well as a bird tower with a very nice view over Mossø. Here you will also find the path to Sukkertoppen, which is 108 meters high. From the top there is a magnificent view.
The river meanders beautifully through the landscape and the course is set for Gammel Rye and Emborg Bro, where there are both rest areas with toilets and table/bench sets.
To get to Ry, you have to go over to Birksø. To get over to Birksø, keep to the left in Åløbet. Here a canal has been established for a short portage – remember to use the canoe trolleys intended for this, which will typically be on the other side. If you sail to the right after this, you will arrive at Ry marina, the rowing club and Skimminghøj Teltplads. It is easy to moor at the campsite and go up to Ry town, where there are shopping and dining options – be sure to stock up on water as well, as there is no possibility for this at Alling Vest Teltplads.
Alling Vest Teltplads is a fantastic intimate site. It is an incredibly beautiful area which is protected, and the area offers many opportunities for fantastic hikes. Here you set up camp for the night.
Day 4:
The tour now heads out through Rosvig and out into Julsø.
Himmelbjerget – keep to the left when you get out on Julsø. Before you arrive at Himmelbjerget, there is a rest area to the left in the bay, from where you can walk through the forest and find Himmelbjerget. However, most people choose, if you want to visit/climb Himmelbjerget, to moor at Hotel Julsø, where Hjejlen and the route boats also moor. Remember either to pull the canoe/kayak up to the left of the route boats at bridge 51 or all the way to the right of Hjejlen and the route boats' landing places, by the small sandy beach.
Møgelø is to the right after Himmelbjerget. Møgelø is an island in Julsø opposite Himmelbjerget. The name Møgelø means "Large Island", as it is the largest in the lake with 28 acres.
Now it goes through Sejssnævringen and into Brassø, where De Små Fisk Teltplads is on the right side, and you set up camp for the night. A short walk into Sejs brings you to shopping and dining options. It is a lovely scenic park-like area, with space for ball games. There is also a bathing area that is "fenced in".
Day 5:
It is a must to sail in through Klüvers kanal, which is located after Bridge no. 7. It is not very wide or deep, and the trees grow out over it, so branches and leaves almost form a “roof”. But there is just room for you to sail through with your canoe, and from here you sail into the most beautiful lake, which is located in the middle of the forest. The lake is called Avnsø and is normally called "Brillerne", a name the lake has received because of its shape, because it actually resembles a pair of old-fashioned glasses.
Now the trip continues towards Silkeborg, where you will sail on Remstrup Å, which is 2.5 km long. Remstrup Å runs from Brassø to Silkeborg Havn, where Silkeborg Kanocenter also has its base, and here you end your trip. If you are not in a hurry to get home, you could possibly take a short walk up to Silkeborg's cosy town centre with shopping opportunities, shopping facilities and eateries.
