You can take breaks at many places along the Gudenåen and the Silkeborg Lakes, where you can have lunch at, for example, Ålekroen, Traktørstedet Ludvigslyst, or Skyttehusets Café. Afterwards you can take a walk in the wonderful surroundings before, full of experiences, you paddle back to Silkeborg Harbor again.

Stay at: Radisson Blu Hotel Papirfabrikken
Sailing time: 19 km and 5.5 hours
Price per person*: DKK 1,400
*Valid for min. 2 people in one canoe. Supplement for single room and option for an extra bed.
Shortly after Ry, you’ll paddle past Alling Vest Teltplads, an incredibly beautiful protected area. The trip now continues through Rosvig and out into Julsø. Here you can paddle to Himmelbjerget and moor at Hotel Julsø, where Hjejlen and the scheduled boats also dock. Remember either to pull the canoe up to the left of the scheduled boats at bridge 51, or all the way to the right of Hjejlen and the scheduled boats’ docking areas, by the small sandy beach.
Møgelø is on the right after Himmelbjerget. Møgelø is an island in Julsø opposite Himmelbjerget. The name Møgelø means “Large Island”, as at 28 tønder land it is the largest in the lake.
Before Svejbæksnævringen you’ll find the eateries: Ålekroen, Traktørstedet Ludvigslyst, and Skyttehusets Café – remember to check their opening hours if you plan to have lunch here.
After that, you continue into Borresø, and a visit to Slåensø (on the left in Borresø) is definitely worth it. You need to pull the canoe/kayak up onto land at the end of bridge 30, and from there it’s a short walk before you reach Slåensø, which is one of Denmark’s чистest freshwater lakes.
The Paradise Islands are also on the left, and if you have time, it’s ideal to paddle to Paradiset and experience the beautiful nature there.
Now you go through Sejssnævringen and into Brassø. It’s a must to paddle through Klüvers canal, which is located after bridge no. 7. It’s not very wide or deep, and the trees grow out over it so branches and leaves almost form a “roof”. But there’s just enough space for you to get through in your canoe, and from here you paddle into the most beautiful lake, tucked away in the middle of the forest. The lake is called Avnsø and is usually called “Brillerne”, a name it got because of its shape, as it actually resembles a pair of old-fashioned pince-nez glasses.
Now the trip continues towards Silkeborg, where you’ll be paddling on Remstrup Å. When you arrive at the end point, which is at Silkeborg Harbor where we have our base, you hand in the canoe, and from here it’s a 5-minute walk to the hotel.
Afterwards, a lovely evening awaits you at Radisson Blu Hotel Papirfabrikken with dinner, an overnight stay, and a delicious breakfast buffet the next day. The hotel is centrally located by the promenade along Remstrup Å.

Overnight stay in a double room
Breakfast buffet

It’s a truly amazing experience to follow the Gudenåen from Silkeborg towards Svostrup, where you’ll see nature at its very best. You meet us at Silkeborg Harbor, where we guide and advise you for the best possible experience. Once you’re on the water, you’ll go through Kammerslusen, the only lock on the Gudenåen, and definitely worth experiencing.
Along the way you pass a rest area in Resenbro with a toilet and picnic tables/benches.
When you’re passing Sminge Sø (a small lake), keep to the left part of the lake, as the right part is protected. After that, the Gudenåen gathers again, and shortly afterwards you’ll arrive at Sminge Rasteplads on your left, where you’ll find a birdwatching tower so you can look out over Gjern Bakker.
About 800 m further on, you paddle under Svostrup Bridge, where one of the old towmen’s inns, Svostrup Kro, comes into view. You’ve arrived, and the canoe needs to be carried about 50 meters up towards the parking lot, so we protect the site when the canoe is picked up.
When you arrive at Svostrup Kro, you’ll be welcomed with afternoon coffee and cake. In the evening you’ll be served a lovely 3-course menu, and then you round off the evening with an overnight stay in one of the inn’s exciting double rooms. The next day, the stay ends with a wonderful breakfast buffet.
Svostrup Kro from 1834 is an old, cosy, and well-kept inn with soul that will take you on a journey back to when the Gudenåen was Central Jutland’s lifeline. All rooms are decorated very individually and charmingly with antique furniture & fun quirks.
Stay at: Svostrup Kro
Sailing time: 21 km and 5.5 hours
Price per person*: DKK 1,600
*Valid for min. 2 people in one canoe. Supplement for single room and option for an extra bed.
If you want to change the final destination, this can be done by phone no later than 12:00 on the last day you paddle.

Day 2:
Shortly after Svostrup Kro you pass Tvilum Bridge, and a bit after the bridge there is a landing pier where you can moor and follow the path 200 meters up to Tvilum Church. There is a rest area and toilets up by the church.
A bit after Tvilum Church, you’ll see a white sign on your right telling you that Teglgårdsparkens Nærkøb & Grill is here – another landmark is that you can see a bonfire spot in the meadow before Sankt Hans, and after that it will look like a flat area without trees or anything else. In addition to a grill bar, there are also toilets here.
When you pass Søhøjlandets Familiecamping, you have about 30 minutes of paddling to your final destination. When you arrive at Kongensbro Teltplads, which is just before Kongens Bro, on the right as you paddle in, pull the canoe up onto land and turn it upside down with the equipment underneath. If you want to end the trip with a feast, Kongensbro Kro is just across the way, and you can enjoy dinner there.

Day 2:
A short distance after Kongensbro, you’ll start paddling on Tange Sø.
As you approach Ans, please be aware that you need to paddle under the bridge. After that, if you keep to the right, you can take a break at Sahl Rasteplads, where there is a toilet. If you want to take a break where you can shop and find places to eat, keep slightly to the left and then left around the small island in the middle of Tange Sø. After that, on your left, you’ll arrive at Ans Teltplads. A short walk from there takes you to the town of Ans.
About 30 minutes of paddling after Ans is Tange Søbad, where there is a rest area with a toilet. It’s a great place for a swim.
At the end of Tange Sø is Tangeværket and the Energy Museum, where you will need to portage the canoe/kayak. Pull the canoe up onto land and use the designated canoe trolleys, which you will typically find on the other side, as that’s where other paddlers have left them.
After Tangeværket you have about 1 hour of paddling to Bjerringbro Teltplads, where the canoe must be handed in.
