The northern stretch, with its unique nature, offers exciting river courses and beautiful lakes along the entire Gudenåen.
Nature and large trees surround the Gudenå River and provide a fantastic experience to sail through. On the northern stretch from Klostermølle to Randers, the experience on the Gudenå River is a wonderful combination of sailing on the narrow river courses and through larger and smaller lakes. With many sights along the northern part of the Gudenå River, there are plenty of opportunities to moor and explore the nature and the surrounding towns.
On the northern stretch are the much-talked-about Silkeborg lakes, which are located in the unique Lake Highlands. The Silkeborg lakes include Himmelbjerget, Slåensø, Paradisøerne and Klüwers Kanal, which goes into Avnsø/Brillerne. There are plenty of accommodation options around Silkeborg and the lakes. There is everything from primitive campsites and well-equipped campsites to hostels and hotels. In the area around Silkeborg alone, there is ample opportunity for a lovely canoe holiday, with many experiences, nature and sights.
Are you going on a day trip? It is obvious to start at Silkeborg Harbour, where we have our base. From here you have the opportunity to spend the day on the Silkeborg lakes and end an eventful day at Silkeborg Harbour. You also have the option of starting at Silkeborg Harbour and sailing north, where after a scenic day you end the trip at e.g. Kongensbro Teltplads.
In contrast to the southern part of the Gudenå River, it is possible to canoe or kayak on the northern part of the Gudenå River all year round. Via our booking system, you can already book your trip out into Denmark's most beautiful nature from the spring.
Canoe & Kayak
We are the largest canoe and kayak rental company on the Gudenå River, and we have a large selection of canoe trips, kayak trips, day trips and multi-day trips. In our booking system you can see and read more about the many tours we have, which start on the northernmost part of the Gudenå River. With our filtering tool, you have the opportunity to search specifically for the stretch you want to sail, as well as specify how many days or kilometers the trip should be.

Plan your trip
At Silkeborg Kanocenter you have the opportunity to start and end your trip along the entire Gudenå River. To make it easier for you, we have selected some of our customers' absolute favorite day trips and multi-day trips, which you can both book and use as inspiration for your next canoe or kayak trip.
Along the banks of the Gudenå River there are many starting points that you can choose to start your trip from. The starting points on the northern stretch are between Klostermølle and Randers. The most popular starting points on the stretch are Ry and Silkeborg.
Many of the starting and ending points along the Gudenå River are also places to stay. There are many cozy campsites, some of which are more primitive than others. There are also many campsites, with a different selection of facilities for both adults and children. On the northern stretch there is also the possibility of staying at several different hotels, inns and hostels. Several of the accommodations are located in towns along the Gudenå River. The largest of them is Silkeborg, where in addition to a rich commercial and urban life, there is also the possibility of cultural experiences and sights.
We have compiled an overview of all start and end points, as well as all accommodation options along the entire Gudenåen, from Tørring in the south to Randers in the north.

Our Family Packages are aimed particularly at families and families with young children, where the trip is planned for you in advance, with fixed accommodation with pitched tents, which are ready for you on arrival. The overnight stays are at family-friendly campsites, with plenty of space for play and experiences.
Our Pioneer Packages are for those of you who want a fantastic Danish nature experience, where you stay overnight at the more primitive campsites along the Gudenå River. You get close to nature and stay overnight in a 4-person igloo tent, which is included in the price of the package.
Our Luxury Packages are aimed at those who prefer first-class stays with a 3-course menu and overnight stay in a lovely double room, as well as a delicious breakfast buffet the next day. We collaborate with Radisson Blu Hotel and Hotel Dania, both of which are located in Silkeborg. We also collaborate with Svostrup Kro and Kongensbro Kro, both of which are located along the banks of the Gudenå River.

Flexible end location, Car transportation & Cancellation
With us, you can always change your final destination by telephone until 12.00 on the last day you sail. This gives you the opportunity to adapt the trip entirely to your wishes.
We also offer car transport from specific starting and ending points, on our own car trailer. You can safely leave your car with us, and it will be moved by our top professional driver according to always applicable laws and regulations. Please note that we do not offer car transport from all starting and ending points...
As the only canoe and kayak rental company on the Gudenå River, you can purchase the option of cancellation with us, should you be prevented from going on your planned canoe or kayak trip, or canoe holiday. For only a small part of the total amount, you are insured against bad weather, illness or unfortunate planning. If you choose not to purchase the extra cancellation option, our general cancellation rules apply.
